Can I use my social security benefits to reimburse the cost of a CPAP machine? (Updated January 2024)
From January 1, 2024 onwards, sleep apnea treatment costs and CPAP machine expenses can be reimbursed through social security.
The Social Security Office (SSO) announced the criteria and rates for benefits in cases of injury or illness not related to work on January 22, 2024. This includes amendments to the criteria and rates for benefits for insured persons suffering from "sleep apnea" and requiring treatment. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine The main points are as follows:
- The cost of a Type 1 polysomnography sleep study (with overnight monitoring) will be reimbursed at the actual cost. Not more than 7,000 baht.
- Type 2 polysomnography (similar to Type 1 except without staff monitoring during the procedure) will be reimbursed at the actual cost. Not more than 6,000 baht.
- The cost of CPAP (Continuous Continuous Air Pressure) machines and supplementary treatment accessories is charged at the rates determined by the office as follows:
- CPAP machine 20,000 baht per set
- A mask that covers the nose or mouth, used with a CPAP machine. 4,000 baht per piece
- The cost of accessories, including paper and sponge air filters, is included in the medical service fees of the medical facility designated by the office as eligible for medical services for insured persons.
- In cases where a medical facility designated by the Office of Medical Services for Insured Persons refers an insured person to another medical facility, and the insured person is diagnosed and approved for the use of a CPAP machine, the designated medical facility shall pay the medical service fees and related equipment costs to the treating medical facility. Reimbursement for medical service fees and equipment costs can be claimed according to the criteria and rates set by the Office as per the aforementioned announcement.
